Countdown to the 2024 Oscars: Academy Releases Shortlists for Coveted Awards

LOS ANGELES, Dec 21 (ZIZ): The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has unveiled the shortlists across ten categories for the upcoming 96th Academy Awards® in Los Angeles, CA. These categories encompass Documentary Feature Film, Documentary Short Film, International Feature Film, Makeup and Hairstyling, Music (Original Score), Music (Original Song), Animated Short Film, Live Action Short Film, Sound, and Visual Effects.

In the Documentary Feature Film category, fifteen films have emerged as contenders out of a pool of one hundred sixty-seven eligible entries. These selections were determined by the voting members of the Documentary Branch.

For the International Feature Film category, fifteen films have progressed to the next phase from a substantial pool of entries from 88 countries and regions. Academy members across branches were involved in the initial voting, ensuring a minimum viewing requirement, and the subsequent nominations round mandates all participants to view all 15 shortlisted films for voting eligibility.

Ten films have made the cut in the Makeup and Hairstyling category. Members of the Academy’s Makeup Artists and Hairstylists Branch will be engaged in viewing excerpts and interviews related to these films on January 14, 2024, to select the final five for Oscar® consideration.

Nominations voting is scheduled between January 11 and January 16, 2024, with the nominations for the 96th Academy Awards set to be announced on January 23, 2024. The prestigious event itself will take place on March 10, 2024, at the Dolby® Theatre at Ovation Hollywood, broadcasted live on ABC and reaching audiences across more than 200 territories globally.
