LOS ANGELES, Jan 8 (ZIZ): The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences revealed today that a total of 321 feature films are officially in contention for recognition at the 2023 Academy Awards®. Among these, 265 movies qualify for consideration in the esteemed Best Picture category, which mandates additional criteria beyond the general entry guidelines.
For general entry consideration, films must have premiered in a commercial motion picture theater in at least one of six specified U.S. metropolitan areas—Los Angeles County, New York City, the Bay Area, Chicago, Miami, and Atlanta—during the period between January 1, 2023, and December 31, 2023. They also need to have run for a minimum of seven consecutive days at the same venue, with a runtime exceeding 40 minutes.
The “Reminder List of Productions Eligible for the 96th Academy Awards” encompassing general entry categories, along with eligible performers for Acting categories, is accessible at https://www.oscars.org/oscars/rules-eligibility.
However, to be eligible for consideration in the Best Picture category specifically, films must satisfy the general entry criteria and submit a confidential Academy Representation and Inclusion Standards (RAISE) entry form. Furthermore, they must meet two out of four additional standards in addition to the theatrical eligibility requirement. Producers or distributors also had the option to abstain from Best Picture consideration.

The nominations voting phase will commence on Thursday, January 11, 2024, and conclude on Tuesday, January 16, 2024.
