BERLIN, Feb 24 (ZIZ): Berlinale has unveiled the complete list of award winners for the 74th Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale 2024), spanning various competition sections of the festival.

The International Jury of the 74th Berlin International Film Festival, comprised of Lupita Nyong’o (Jury President), Brady Corbet, Ann Hui, Christian Petzold, Albert Serra, Jasmine Trinca, and Oksana Zabuzhko, has selected their favorite films, as listed below.

  • Golden Bear for Best Film: Dahomey by Mati Diop, produced by Eve Robin, Judith Lou Lévy, Mati Diop.
  • Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize: Yeohaengjaui Pilyo (A Traveler‘s Needs) by Hong Sangsoo.
  • Silver Bear Jury Prize: L’ Empire (The Empire) by Bruno Dumont.
  • Silver Bear for Best Director: Nelson Carlos De Los Santos Arias for Pepe.
  • Silver Bear for Best Leading Performance: Sebastian Stan in A Different Man by Aaron Schimberg.
  • Silver Bear for Best Supporting Performance: Emily Watson in Small Things Like These by Tim Mielants.
  • Silver Bear for Best Screenplay: Matthias Glasner for Sterben (Dying) by Matthias Glasner.
  • Silver Bear for Outstanding Artistic Contribution: Martin Gschlacht for the Cinematography in Des Teufels Bad (The Devil’s Bath) by Veronika Franz & Severin Fiala.

The Encounters Jury of the 74th Berlin International Film Festival, comprised of Lisandro Alonso, Denis Côté, and Tizza Covi, presented the following awards: Best Film was awarded to “DIRECT ACTION” by Guillaume Cailleau and Ben Russell, Best Director to “Cidade; Campo” by Juliana Rojas, and the Special Jury Prize to “Khamyazeye Bozorg (The Great Yawn of History)” by Aliyar Rasti and “Kong Fang Jian Li De Nv Ren (Some Rain Must Fall)” by Qiu Yang.

The jury of the Berlinale Documentary Award, comprised of Abbas Fahdel, Thomas Heise, and Véréna Paravel, presented the award to “No Other Land” by Basel Adra, Hamdan Ballal, Yuval Abraham, Rachel Szor, produced by Fabien Greenberg and Bård Kjøge Rønning. A Special Mention was awarded to “DIRECT ACTION” by Guillaume Cailleau and Ben Russell.

The GWFF Best First Feature Award, voted on by Eliza Hittman, Andréa Picard, and Katrin Pors, was presented to “Cu Li Không Bao Giờ Khóc (Cu Li Never Cries)” by Phạm Ngọc Lân, produced by Nghiêm Quỳnh Trang and Trần Thị Bích Ngọc.

The International Short Film Jury, consisting of Ilker Çatak, Xabier Erkizia, and Jennifer Reeder, at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival announced “Un movimiento extraño (An Odd Turn)” by Francisco Lezama as the winner of the Golden Bear for Best Short Film. The Silver Bear Jury Prize (Short Film) went to “Re tian wu hou (Remains of the Hot Day)” by Wenqian Zhang, and a Special Mention was awarded to “That’s All from Me (So viel von mir)” by Eva Könnemann. Additionally, “That’s All from Me (So viel von mir)” by Eva Könnemann was announced as the Berlin Short Film Candidate for the European Film Awards.

The Children’s Jury at Generation Kplus, comprised of Elisabeth Christenfeldt, Frederik Hammer, Kali Marsh, Roza Papastefanou, Paula Amélie Riedel, Nanami Lina Rohrer, and Juni Spanier, presented two Crystal Bears and Special Mentions to the winners. The Crystal Bear for Best Film was awarded to “It’s Okay! (Es ist okay!)” by Kim Hye-young, with a Special Mention given to “Young Hearts (Junge Herzen)” by Anthony Schatteman. The Children’s Jury also awarded the Crystal Bear for Best Short Film to “Papillon (Butterfly | Schmetterling)” by Florence Miailhe, with a Special Mention awarded to “Sukoun (Amplified | In die Stille)” by Dina Naser.

Amjad Abu Alala, Banafshe Hourmazdi, and Ira Sachs, members of the International Jury in the Generation Kplus Competition, presented the Grand Prix of the International Jury for Best Film to “Reinas” by Klaudia Reynicke. A Special Mention was awarded to “Raíz (Through Rocks and Clouds | Durch Felsen und Wolken)” by Franco García Becerra. The Special Prize of the International Jury for Best Short Film was awarded to “A Summer’s End Poem (Sommer, Ende)” by Lam Can-zhao, with a Special Mention given to “Uli” by Mariana Gil Ríos.

The Youth Jury at Generation 14plus, comprised of Erik Lars Dziergwa, Viola Holland, Cynthia Kuo-Lo, Solace Pieper, and Sea Starzacher, presented the Crystal Bear for Best Film to “The Last Swim” by Sasha Nathwani. The jury awarded a Special Mention to “Kai Shi De Qiang (She Sat There Like All Ordinary Ones)” by Qu Youjia. The Crystal Bear for Best Short Film was awarded to “Cura Sana” by Lucía G. Romero, with a Special Mention given to “Lapso (Lapse)” by Caroline Cavalcanti.

The International Jury in the Generation 14plus Competition, consisting of Amjad Abu Alala, Banafshe Hourmazdi, and Ira Sachs, presented “Comme le feu (Who by Fire)” by Philippe Lesage with the Grand Prix of the International Jury for Best Film. “Maydegol” by Sarvnaz Alambeigi received a Special Mention. The jury also awarded the Special Prize of the International Jury for Best Short Film to “Un pájaro voló (A Bird Flew)” by Leinad Pájaro De la Hoz, and a Special Mention was given to “Songs of Love and Hate” by Saurav Ghimire.
