Los Angeles, CA – November 30, 2023: In a much-anticipated announcement, Film Independent, the revered nonprofit organization dedicated to nurturing independence and inclusivity in visual storytelling, has revealed that the esteemed actress and comedian, Aidy Bryant, will take center stage as the host of the 2024 Film Independent Spirit Awards. This significant event, commemorating the 39th edition of the annual awards show, will also celebrate the 30th anniversary of Film Independent’s influential Artist Development program.

Scheduled to unveil its nominations on December 5th at 7 a.m. PST via filmindependent.org and broadcasted on Film Independent’s YouTube channel, the Spirit Awards will witness winners being announced during the awards show on February 25th in Santa Monica. The event will be streamed live on the IMDb and Film Independent’s YouTube channels, as well as on various other social platforms, commencing at 2 p.m. PST.

Aidy Bryant, known for her illustrious career spanning from The Second City in Chicago to her 10-season stint on Saturday Night Live, has been recognized for her outstanding contributions. Her nominations for two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics during her tenure at SNL are testaments to her versatile talent. Additionally, her role as the star, co-creator, and showrunner of the acclaimed Hulu series Shrill further cemented her status. Bryant’s recent deal with Universal Television has her involved in multiple projects, including the development of her new television series, “Lonely Hearts Club,” produced by Ari Aster for Peacock. Moreover, her voice work as the lead character, “Emmy the Lovebug,” in Netflix’s animated series, “Human Resources,” showcases her multifaceted abilities.

The upcoming 2024 Spirit Awards, renowned for their array of distinguished hosts such as Hasan Minhaj, Megan Mullaly, Nick Offerman, and more, serves as Film Independent’s primary fundraiser for its year-round programs. These programs play a pivotal role in nurturing emerging filmmakers and advocating for diversity and inclusion in the film industry. This year’s edition marks Film Independent’s second collaboration with Emmy Award-winning producer Eddie Delbridge of Live Digital Entertainment, known for his expertise in producing notable events. Shawn Davis, in his 22nd year with the Spirit Awards, returns as the executive producer, alongside producers Danielle Federico and Andrew Schaff.
