From Debut Features to Documentaries: 2024 Berlinale's Encounters Delivers a Varied Palette

BERLIN, Jan 22 (ZIZ): The Berlinale 2024 Encounters program unveils a lineup of 15 films, all set for their world premieres. This competitive section includes two debut features and introduces a documentary form. Representing 17 countries, the selection notably features six films directed by women.

According to Carlo Chatrian, the Artistic Director, each film in the Encounters category challenges traditional cinematic categories. Genres showcased range from surreal detections to ironic tales, sentimental comedies, observational documentaries, parables, and therapeutic exercises. Collectively, these films offer a nuanced portrayal of the 21st-century world, encompassing its beauty and tragedies.
