Los Angeles, CA — November 9, 2023: As the film industry gears up for the prestigious 96th Academy Awards, filmmakers are urged to mark their calendars for a crucial date: November 15, 2023. This is the deadline for submitting Oscars® Submission Forms (OSF) and Representation and Inclusion Standards Entry (RAISE) forms for Best Picture consideration to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

The meticulous process involves film distributors or producers uploading a scanned, signed copy of the OSF and legal billing (complete on-screen credits) via the dedicated submission website. The window for this critical submission closes at 5 p.m. PT on November 15, and no films will be considered after this date.

While the credits submission deadline coincides with November 15, feature films have until December 31 to secure a spot in a commercial motion picture theater in one of six qualifying U.S. metro areas. These areas encompass Los Angeles County, City of New York (five boroughs), the Bay Area (counties of San Francisco, Marin, Alameda, San Mateo, and Contra Costa), Chicago (Cook County, Illinois), Miami (Miami-Dade County, Florida), and Atlanta (Fulton County, Georgia). A minimum run of seven consecutive days, with screenings occurring at least three times daily, including one screening starting between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. daily, is required for eligibility in the 2023 Awards consideration.

In a bid to foster inclusivity, films vying for the Best Picture category at the 96th Oscars must submit the confidential Academy Inclusion Standards form and fulfill two of the four standards. This submission also has a deadline of 5 p.m. PT on November 15. Filmmakers do have the option to opt out of Best Picture consideration.

The RAISE platform, facilitating the submission of Inclusion Standards, is accessible online at https://raise.oscars.org/, while OSFs can be accessed online at https://submissions.oscars.org/. Any inquiries regarding RAISE and Best Picture eligibility can be directed to [email protected].

A crucial date to note is December 19, 2023, which marks the last day to upload a film to the “For Your Consideration” section on the Academy Screening Room member-only streaming site.

It’s essential to mention that entries in the animated feature, documentary feature, international feature, and short film categories are subject to special rules and qualifying criteria. The submission deadline for these specialty categories has already passed.

The highly anticipated nominations for the 96th Academy Awards will be unveiled on Tuesday, January 23, 2024.

Save the date: The 96th Oscars ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, March 10, 2024, at the Dolby® Theatre at Ovation Hollywood. The event will be broadcasted live on ABC and in over 200 territories worldwide.
