Yousaf Ali-Khan’s ‘NO WAY HOME’ to Debut at Tallinn Black Nights Festival 2023

World Premiere Announcement for UK Feature Production "NO WAY HOME" at PÖFF Tallinn Black Nights Festival

London, UK – October 30, 2023: Pentney Khan Productions have unveiled the upcoming World Premiere of “NO WAY HOME,” a British cinematic creation, featuring an ensemble cast including Hayley Squires (known for “I, Daniel Blake”), Goran Bogdan (“FATHER”), Josh Herdman (of “HARRY POTTER” fame), and introducing the talented Mitchell Norman. This highly anticipated film will make its debut at the prestigious Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, as part of the Just Film strand, scheduled for Saturday, November 4th, at 19:30.

Directed by the accomplished writer and director Yousaf Ali-Khan, whose previous work includes the acclaimed “ALMOST ADULT,” “NO WAY HOME” is based on an award-winning script co-authored by Yousaf Ali-Khan and Andy Porter. Michael Pentney, a key contributor to the project, serves as co-producer and editor. The film delves into profound themes of belonging, immigration, racism, and acceptance, set against the backdrop of a semi-rural area on the outskirts of London where locals face relocation due to redevelopment. The narrative unfolds through the perspective of a young boy seeking a father figure, while also exploring the intricate facets of family and identity.

The story follows Ryan, a troubled ten-year-old who seeks solace in an industrial wasteland near his home to escape the turmoil created by his mother and her boyfriend, Jason. During his exploration, he encounters an injured Middle Eastern man, a Syrian immigrant, hiding from the authorities. In his quest for a father figure, Ryan forms a secret bond with the immigrant, providing him with food and medicine. However, their peaceful coexistence is threatened by Jason and his associates, who eventually locate the man’s hiding place. As Ryan becomes aware of this peril, he embarks on a desperate mission to help, with potentially dire consequences.

In the words of director Yousaf Ali Khan: “Like Ryan, I never had a father. I realized recently that for much of my life, I have been searching for suitable male role models. This led me to imagine what it would be like to have a ‘father type’ relationship with someone and to lay claim to my roots without the nagging feeling of being an imposter. ‘NO WAY HOME’ is a film that delves into the concepts of family and ethnic identity. The narrative allows us to focus on the relationship and takes a subjective and lyrical approach through the eyes of an immature observer. All my films have explored the experience of living on the fringes of society, a theme I further explore through the lead characters who, in their own ways, exist as outsiders.”

The World Premiere of “NO WAY HOME” will be attended by Yousaf Ali Khan (Director/Co-Writer), actors Josh Herdman and Mitchell Norman, Michael Pentney (Producer/Editor), Andy Porter (Co-Writer/Producer), Gina Fegan (Producer), and Katherine Priddy, who composed the film’s title song.
