Cameron Bailey, the CEO of TIFF, expressed his elation at Vicky Krieps’ inclusion among the honorees, stating, “Vicky’s transformative performances illuminate the screen, weaving emotions into a tapestry of storytelling. Her dedication to her craft and her ability to embody diverse roles with profound authenticity make her a true luminary in the realm of cinema.”

Vicky Krieps has garnered widespread acclaim for her remarkable body of work and is set to return to the Festival this year for the World Premiere of Viggo Mortensen’s “The Dead Don’t Hurt.” The Luxembourgish actor, based in Berlin, will share the stage with the recently announced Tribute Performer Award recipient, Colman Domingo. This accolade has previously graced the hands of luminaries such as Brendan Fraser and the ensemble cast of “My Policeman” in 2022, Jessica Chastain and Benedict Cumberbatch in 2021, Kate Winslet and Sir Anthony Hopkins in 2020, and Meryl Streep and Joaquin Phoenix in 2019.

Krieps, celebrated for her versatility in portraying a wide array of characters, achieved significant recognition for her breakout role in Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Phantom Thread,” where she starred alongside Daniel Day-Lewis. Her outstanding performances in past Festival selections, including “Bergman Island,” “Corsage,” and “The Survivor,” have solidified her reputation as a distinguished talent. In “The Dead Don’t Hurt,” Krieps takes on the role of Vivienne Le Coudy, a fiercely independent French-Canadian flower seller, opposite Mortensen, who portrays a Danish carpenter in this 1860s-set feminist western exploring the lives of immigrants in a corrupt Nevada town.

The Tribute Awards gala serves as TIFF’s most significant annual fundraiser, having raised an impressive $1.3 million in 2022. It is proudly presented by Bulgari, a brand sharing TIFF’s commitment to supporting the arts and culture. This year, the Tribute Awards gala will lend its support to the Viola Desmond Cinema campaign, initiated through the Every Story Fund in 2022.
